Character
Character Name: Mami Tomoe
Canon: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Age: 15
Appearance: Mami is a girl of average height with shoulder-length blonde twintails done up in a corkscrew hairstyle. Her puella magi uniform consists of a white shirt with detatched sleeves, a black corset, and yellow skirt, accompanied by black fingerless gloves and knee-high boots. In this form, she also wears a hat with a little fluffy attachment and a flower pin that houses her Soul Gem, which is gold to match her eyes. Her 'civilian' attire is normally a school uniform. Also picture!
Canon Point: Mami will be taken from the third timeline seen in episode ten, after the group gets together but before shit hits the fan.
History: Here

Personality: When one first meets Mami, the first thing they might notice is how cool she is. No, not in the “oh god so awesome!” way (though that is the reaction some people have towards her). Mami has a very calm, even demeanor, which very rarely changes. Whether she’s in school or fighting a witch, she very rarely loses the aura of calm about her. She's confident in her own abilities, and just a little on the cocky side, almost casually threatening Homura in several of their confrontations in the main timeline.

Her personality definitely fits the role she takes in the series. She’s the big sister figure, the mentor; she cares very much for Sayaka and Madoka, especially the latter, and does her best to show them the ways of being a Puella Magi. They may be defenseless when they enter the witches’ dimensions, but Mami does her best to keep them safe. She also does her best to guide them; she stresses that they must think carefully over their wishes. She thinks it would be foolish to waste such an important thing on something trivial. She's very much the same in Timeline 3, but instead of Sayaka, Homura is the other Puella Magi in need of guidance. She and Madoka have already contracted, but that doesn't stop Mami from showing them the ways of the Puella Magi, and keeping an eye out for them when she can.

... Heartbreakingly, most of this calm attitude is just a mask.

It's true that Mami is a nice girl. It's true that she wants to help Sayaka and Madoka (and Homura) be the best Puella Magi they can be. But underneath all that is an almost crippling loneliness. Before meeting the others, she had nobody to care about or who cared about her for an unknown amount of time: her parents are dead, she's constantly butting heads with the city's other resident Puella Magi, and she constantly fights increasingly creepy otherworldly beings. This puts an immense amount of stress on her, and she admits that while she's resigned to a life of loneliness, she still cries a lot at home. It really says a lot about her acting that she's able to cover all of this up.

But once the cracks start appearing in her shell, she doesn't bother covering them up. She eventually admits that she's not someone that should be admired: the loneliness, the guilt... she's even a bit cynical under all her layers. While she doesn't regret becoming a Puella Magi, she does regret not being able to make the choice for herself. She's also more than a bit selfish; she's willing to expose Madoka to the horrors of becoming a Puella Magi just so she'll have someone there for her. To assure her that she's not alone. In her defense, though, she didn't know the true horror of becoming a Puella Magi. This is confirmed in Timeline 3: Mami, completely horrified over the reveal that Puella Magi with tainted Soul Gems turn into witches, destroys Kyouko's Soul Gem and would have done the same to Homura and Madoka had Madoka not destroyed hers first. She's willing to do anything make sure those she cares about aren't suffering, even though it may seem extreme at times.

In the alternate timeline I'll be taking her from, Mami seems to be somewhat less hostile towards her fellow Puella Magi. It can be assumed that she was still the same Mami up until she met Madoka, but as she didn't perish shortly after the pink-haired girl agreed to be her partner, the girl's positive influence was able to help Mami get past some of her issues. She works well with the other Puella Magi, even Kyouko, who seemed to be an enemy to the group at one point. She's still a long way from being the person she pretends to be, but it's clear that she was in the process of healing before Shit Got Real.

Abilities: Mami is a Puella Magi! They're... not your typical magical girls. While it's true that, in tradition with most other magical girl series, they get their super special magic powers from a cute animal sidekick, there's a whole other horrifying side to this role that none of them knew about when they agreed to the contract.

See, the Soul Gems? Those nifty jewels they get when the contract is formed? They're exactly what it says on the tin. Upon making a contract, their souls are sucked out of their bodies and into these gems, more or less turning them into zombies. A puella magi's body can be crushed, torn to shreds, and countless other nasty things, but as long as their Soul Gems are intact, they'll eventually be able to heal. But if the Soul Gem completely loses all light in it, the puella magi transforms into a witch. There is no way to reverse this.

As for personal abilities, Mami has the ability to summon an unlimited amount of one-shot rifles, and can summon a large, cannon-like flintlock gun to fire her finisher, Tiro Finale, which is just a huge laser o' doom. She has the power to transform objects (as seen with Sayaka's bat), create binds, and use the ribbon around her neck as a versatile tool to do various things. She also seems to have a minor healing ability, as seen when she helped Kyuubey in episode 2.

First Person: Will this work?
Third Person: It had been some time since Mami felt this tired. The advantage to having a team of five strong magical girls is that it took less effort to destroy witches, and so she wouldn't tire herself out as quickly as she did when she worked alone. But, as today proved, that could also be a curse. Even so, she had no regrets about that.

Stretching her tired limbs, Mami pulled off the light pink uniform top, folding it and setting it on her futon. In just her pants and her undershirt, she sat by the open sliding door, letting the light evening breeze relax her.

This place... it was a mixed blessing. Once the initial shock and unease had settled down, Mami realized... it wasn't all that bad. They were trapped, forced into servitude... but they had a place to stay. They were in no danger, outside of any possible hostile guests, and - most importantly - she and her friends were together. Well... almost.

The fear bit hard at her. She was glad Madoka and Homura were here; they were the two she kept the closest eye on in battle. But Sayaka, Kyouko... what would become of them, with the others gone? They were strong, but just what would the two do to find them?

Mami let out a long sigh, leaning her head back against the doorframe. What a mess.
